PAUL P HARRIS

FOUNDER OF ROTARY

On February 3rd, 1905, Paul Harris and three other gentlemen founded Rotary in Chicago. The name "Rotary" was selected because the meeting place rotated from office to office of the members. In 1906, a buggy wheel emblem was adopted. The Rotary "Endowment Fund" was named for Paul Harris when he died in 1947.
